The ‘Growing Together’ initiative is a learning journey about passing on spiritual legacy from one generation to the next. It’s a cultural shift that moves youth and young adult ministry from the periphery to the heart of the local church where everyone can thrive.
The Victorian Conference is excited to launch this initiative early next year with a Summit at the AUC on February 29 – 1 March, supplemented with 8 months of follow-up and support in developing a strategy for change, and finishing with another Summit on October 24-25.
Local Churches are invited to participate in this exciting journey, which seeks to equip local church leadership with education, training, and a practical strategy for enabling their congregations to grow together. Places are limited, so please contact VicYouth firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like your Church to participate.
“Our western culture has a subtle way of fragmenting our society into generational groups, and moving the older ones onto the shelf, antiquated and forgotten. Churches do that at their peril. Conversely, older generations can lose touch with the youth of today such that they don’t trust them to hand over the reins. This too, happens at the Church’s peril. Growing Together provides a paradigm – insights, principles, framework – where the wisdom and compassion of the older generation can be passed onto the exuberant, energetic younger ones, so that they both feel valued and a significant part of this body we call the Church. When this happens, we truly Grow Together to be the mature and effective Church Jesus wants us to be.” – Brett Townend, President, South Queensland Conference
